The new rental apartment yearned to commemorate itself with rental chairs. It wrote to Andpartyrentals, called EasyPZ, and screamed for Even Tier.
The rental apartment had a good friend named D4, who was looking for an apartment for her chairs to breathe. She had modular chairs—60 stackable, laughable, folding units. Together, they lined them up, filling a living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and all three closets. D4’s heart began to race. D4 was suffocating.
Surrounded by these units, it didn’t have anywhere to stand. It was a sea of chair. In a fury, D4 plucked a leg out from each chair and chucked them out the window.
They called up Quinn Yanku, known for making wood assemblage shelves. Could Quinn make options for these finicky sitters? D4 and the new rental apartment were filled with excitement. But, upon creation, Quinn felt unsure her product would fit their taste. She passed it off to a surgeon named Carly Sheehan, an expert in grafting four-legged objects.
Dr. Sheehan split the chair in two: a flat surface and an x-shaped appendage.
Its metal legs began to shake. It started to pace its transparent quarters, bumping into each of its bits, letting out a low, monotonous sound, calling for Aneesa Razak, the mother.
Nursing it back to health was Earthen Clay. Clay laid out gems on the wounds and wrapped them in pink bandages. It began to look quite elegant, like a chair by Samuel Alexander Forest or a shadow by Hafsa Nouman.
D4 and the rental apartment were not alone—many of us have looked for chairs in all the wrong places. Danny Polonsky made a spot for those last to be chosen, especially by the sassy, side-eyeing, gossiping, melting, flat stanleyettes of Odette Steinert. Everyone was paranoid. Will you sit with them?
Meanwhile, Allie Taylor found themselves in a hostage situation. Their bail was posted at ten thousand chairs, and they yearned for a break, like the moving targets jumping out of the kitchen window, who Yeji Kim is the accomplice of.
Witnessing this was Jam Yoo, who paraded pressure points around town. He was a podiatrist who liked to cure by demonstrating his own vulnerability.
He particularly liked a patient named Kian McKeown, whose feet were sore from standing in a laboratory while developing formulas for everyday desires. Yoo’s prescription for patient McKeown was to devise a formula for a perfect chair, so he could finally put his feet to rest. Mckeown’s formula is this:
- Bring a chair (s)
- Cover your chair
- All your chairs must touch

THE CHAIR
By Izzy Casey
Once, I married a chair.
Guess what happened next?!
It sat by itself in the corner
for days on end and watched me
as I brushed my long head
of strawberry blonde hair
I wish I was dead
was a thing it never said
but I could tell it didn’t
want to be there. It had three legs.
It had no arms. Or friends.
I carried it on my back, wherever I went.
Each night we slept in the same room
in separate beds.
I wish I was dead
was a thing it never said to me
when I wasn’t there.
